Mike wanted to make the road easier for other children and at the same time give them the opportunity to have fun with their families. He wanted to create something that would keep going and giving to the community. His idea; one that fueled his spirits during a grueling fight over 17 months, has now become "Mike's Miracles."
"Mike's Miracles" is not about any miracles that Mike performed, but rather it is about the "Miracles" that took place in his life while on his cancer journey. Through the kindness and generosity of so many organizations, companies and individuals, Mike was truly blessed. He wanted to pass these blessings on to others.
Mike, with the help of his mother Terri and his Uncle Rob, designed the "Mike's Miracles" logo. The rainbow, which is in the shape of an "M", separates two clouds and symbolizes hope. It is also half a heart which symbolizes that the work is never done. "Strong Together" was the theme our family used during Mike's illness. We were "Strong Together" with God, as a family, with our friends, with our church, with our school and with our community!
Mike was touched and inspired by many organizations that helped him along the way. Money raised through "Mike's Miracles" will be used to help organizations such as McMaster Children's Hospital, McMaster "Child Life", Camp Trillium, Help a Child Smile, Rankin Cancer Run, Give Kids the World, Ronald McDonald House and others.
On April 26, 2008, Mike lost his battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. But throughout his cancer journey, Mike had the heart to think of other sick children and their families. "Mike's Miracles" was very close to his heart and his family and friends have promised to carry on the work that he began.
Community spirit and support for "Mike's Miracles" is very evidently being displayed through the generosity of individuals, companies and community fundraisers taking place throughout Canada.
